The NEW & IMPROVED Boris Bikes Forums!

I’ve finally found some time to dust of the cob webs and upgrade the Boris Bikes forum. Hooray!

I have upgraded the forum software from bbPress 1.1 to 2.2.3 and in the process have done a bit of clean up.

What does this mean?

Less Spam

Firstly, I hope the Spam will be dramatically reduced! New user registration is now requires a CAPTCHA input. Any user posting for the first time will have there post placed in “Awaiting Moderation” mode. Once approved, any further posts should appear instantly.

Missing Features

There might be a few things missing since the upgrade. Do let me know if there’s anything you would like back. One feature that will be tricky to return is Polls. For now there is now Polls plugin for the latest version of bbPress so this will have to wait.

New Features

• Responsive design so the site looks great on Mobiles and Tablets.
• Ability to add attachments to posts (images etc)
• Images are displayed in a “lightbox” when clicked
• Signatures (see my signature below for instructions)
• News menu item (currently importing/linking to Martin‘s fantastic blog)
• Twitter ticker at the bottom of the homepage displaying the TfL Cycle Hire status
• Link to the Cycle Hire “My account” page in top menu (after log in)

That’s about all.

Great to see the forum back – wasn’t sure what had happened.

Hopefully some of the old regulars will check back soon and things will start moving again.

From what I’ve seen so far – nice improvements.

Good to see the new features.

Problems I’ve found so far:

a) The old RSS feed URL (http://www.borisbikes.org/rss.php) no longer works, can’t see an alternative.

b) The link on my username (http://borisbikes.org/login/) redirects to http://borisbikes.org/forums/user/ayeomans/ which then gives “Page not found”

c) I had to reset my password to get back in.

The RSS feed is now located here:  http://borisbikes.org/?feed=rss2&post_type=forum  In the near future I will add an RSS icon to the page footer.

Your profile link should work now.

Shame about the password reset. Seems that the conversion to the new version of bbPress has caused some passwords to be lots. Sorry about that.
