I wonder whether the difference between a black cab driver and a bus driver is partly down to how they earn a living. A bus driver is employed and so doesn’t take the ‘revenue risk’ of a delayed journey. Black cabbies are self employed, so possibly feel that the streets are their workplace and the rest of us are sodding up their day and income. I have no evidence to back this up, but it feels plausible.
That said, it’s no excuse for poor driving.
Is anyone here thinking of using the free weekend?
Joel, Chap is right, annual passes are not transferable.
Hi Amber, the saddle is designed to be easily adjusted to your height. There are markings on the side of the post to help you find the right height. To adjust, look for the lever on the side of the seat post and release it. Wriggle the saddle up or down (depending on how high it is already) until you are happy with the height. I’m about 5’6″ and adjust it to a 3. Here is some guidance on the right height for you http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/how-to-get-your-seat-height-right-14608/ . I prefer a less ‘leg-efficient’ height so that I can definitely plant a good part of my foot on the ground when stopped! Once you have found the right height, make sure that the long black line is lined up with the front of the clamp – this makes sure that the saddle is straight. Then push the lever back into place. If the lever has worked a bit loose, spin it a bit tighter before you push it back into place. The easiest and quickest way though is to find your favourite setting and chose a bike that is already at that height. Saves a few seconds but feels epic!
Great spring clean. Thank you.
It’s a short walk to nearby docking stations – Belvedere Road, Jubilee Gardens, Waterloo Bridge – and not much of a stride to the docking stations at Southwark tube/Columbo Street. Where do you want to go to? It could be worth investigating your options in the general direction. Waterloo is a bit of a challenge if you aren’t there early. Probably best to consider it an unexpected treat to have a bike available at peak hours!
Have you tried the apps for checking availability of docks and bikes?
Hi Lius
you need to “Have a UK postal address which matches your billing address”. Not sure if this means that only UK issued cards can be used or that your italian cards can be accepted provided you have updated your address details with your card company. But it definitely won’t work if your card company has a different address for you, or if you are trying to give an overseas address for your account.
Health benefits can be taken into account when making investment decisions in traffic schemes – but it’s quite complicated/hard to prove and currently less ‘valuable’ than the assumed economic benefits of shaving seconds off journey times.
I’d like to see easier/better ways to more fully reflect the public value of cycling trips and so make a stronger case for the sorts of schemes that make cycling safer, more enjoyable, more likely to be taken up by more people and for cycling to represent a greater proportion of trips across all demographies.
In the hard economics of transport business cases, cycling is still struggling to compete effectively against the volumes and values of other road users. It needs to change.

would this sort of fault reporting be useful (if adapted for bike/docks faults)?
What about a simple rule that if you pick a bike up from a docking station full of bikes and drop it off at one with none, you get credit or some other incentive (like, perhaps free entry into a prize draw for some fab monthly prize – no limit on the number of entries, provided each follows the basic rules – full to empty).
Anyone else like this idea? Serco?
Think hard about whether you want to auto renew if you have more than one key. otherwise you will be charged access for all keys, even if you only want to use one.
Could we have a forum area where we can share loves/hates/wants for existing sites and to propose locations for new sites? Or is there one and I haven’t come across it yet?
