Hadn’t realized there was an outright prohibition on using a bike lock. According to the Terms and Conditions, locking up the bike is not allowed. Section 9(3)(b)(i) states:

When using a Cycle, you and each Additional User must not: lock or secure the Cycle to any object or property during the Period of Use

    “Don’t lock it, dock it”.

I certainly have seen the ‘Don’t lock it, dock it’ line, but didn’t realize that it was an outright violation of the terms of use policy.

Me neither. It just seemed to make sense from a billing and security point of view given that you’ll get billed if the bike gets stolen. I doubt you could insure against that easily.

But you can apparently lock it to itself..

However, 9-3-b-iii suggest you can’t lend a key to a friend or visitor, and 9-3-b-ix says you can’t clip your GPS to it.
