In the last month, the Elephant and Castle got not one but two shiny new docking stations, near what used to be the southern roundabout. One on each side of the road. These additions have meant that the problems of finding bikes in the morning and a space to park a bike late in the evening have vanished.

So WTF were TfL/Serco thinking when they decided it was a good idea to close off one of those new stations, yesterday?! The terminal is switched off, and the docking point are blocked with yellow no bike signs. There was no warning, there is no explanation. And it’s also the largest of the two new stations. This means that the nearby stations were full last night when I blithely glided in, expecting to find a space and get home quickly.

Instead, I had to visit 5 stations in the area (the system even recognising that the stations were full) before finding a space.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, Serco! or at least let people know why you are doing what you are doing!

Upcoming roadworks? Utilities about to dig up the pavement? Building works about to start?

There could be a number of reasons…

If that’s Walworth Road then there’s been a power failure

This information is really useful. But why didn’t they email their subscribers and let them know this new information was availble? Maybe, in future, they could do a text service like the way they do for trains. :)
