I’ve noticed occasionally people have difficulty posting URL’s and videos so here’s a quick tutorial.

    Links to webpages

To post a link to a webpage (URL), do the following:

    1. Type some text describing the page e.g. Boris Bikes Forum
    2. Highlight the text you just typed and select the URL button from the toolbar
    3. You will now be prompted to enter the real URL, do this then click OK

You should now see something like this (without the spaces):

    [ u r l = h t t p : / / w w w . b o r i s b i k e s . o r g ] B o r i s B i k e s F o r u m [ / u r l ]

Once posted, the URL will be displayed like this:

    Boris Bikes Forum

    Alternatively, you can simply type the url. e.g. h t t p : / / w w w . b o r i s b i k e s . o r g (without the spaces) and it will appear as http://www.borisbikes.org

Note, if you want to post a non-http URL then you will first need to use a URL shortener such as http://goo.gl

    Embedding a video

This could not be easier. Forget the embedding codes etc. All you need to do is post the link and the forum software will do the rest.

e..g Simply entering this (without the spaces, and NO url tags) :

    h t t p : / / w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m / w a t c h ? v= E g I P G x 0 2 V K c

    will display like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgIPGx02VKc

Note: this auto-emmbeding feature only works with the following services:

    youtube

    vimeo

    myvideo

    funnyordie

    collegehumor

    dailymotion

    sevenload

    glumbert

    googlevideo

    liveleak

    metacafe

    clipfish

    gametrailers

    Embedding a photo

At this stage I do not have the capacity to host everyone’s photos, so you will need to first upload your images a service such as flickr.

If it’s something quick, then I recommend using http://imgur.com. Imgur is great because it lets you size the image just right for these forums and even generates the correct BB code. Just follow these steps:

      [*]Go to http://imgur.com/*

[*]Click browse then select your image[/*]

      [*]Click continue[/*]

[*]Click More Sizes in the top left then choose Large Thumbnail[/*]

[*]Select and copy the contents of the Message Boards box[/*]

[*]Finally, paste the code into your Boris Bikes post.[/*]

Hope this helpd. Let me know if you have any problems.

Why is there no option to embed pictures? It appears that we have to upload them to a website and then hyperlink them.

Good point @mattradack. I had mentioned it in the FAQ, however some people might miss it there so I will update this topic in a few minutes to also include the info on embedding images.
