    Today’s news: http://news.sky.com/story/1031981/bulging-bill-of-britains-obesity-epidemic

If only the UK Government, and Boris Johnson as Mayor of London, could accept the part public transport has to play in the obesity epidemic.

Boris could make a huge difference if only he would sequester public funds towards making sustainable transport viable for the majority.

Protected bike lanes in London now.

And more on cycling and obesity http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/bike-blog/2012/nov/28/deadly-cycling-sitting-watching-tv#start-of-comments

When will the Government understand the link between economic benefits and savings of cycling to society?

I agree that poor infrastructure decisions and associated costs/conveniences contribute highly to this epidemic.

However diet also plays a large part in this; go to your local supermarket and the wheat/maize-packed and sugar sweetened foodstuff vastly outweighs natural food, and there is a noticeable price difference.

Sadly it seems that unhealthful and unsustainable lifestyles are effectively promoted/subsidised whether it is sub-par quality food, monopolistic public transport practices, or the effective subsidies that motorists receive from the true cost of such activities. London is lucky in the sense that the effects of such poor decisions are more apparent than the rest of the nation.
