Caught a bike this evening. After walking a mile (no bikes at Guildhall? One dead one at London Wall) picked one up at Museum of London. Have they started filling the tyres with lead or sand?

No, they’re failing to replace parts where needed. I’ve noticed a lot clunkier bikes recently. Especially the chain/pedal bits which no longer get fixed properly.

Most bikes I’ve been on the past couple of months are falling apart. You feel like you’ve hit the jackpot if you get one with the bell working, and it’s normal to have loose screw on the seatpost quick-release. My biggest fear is the brakes failing. But luckily, with the snail pace you’re going with these bikes you can just slow crash into a pedestrian for emergency stop if that should happen.
